Bacterial Culture method for the diagnosis of urinary tract infections
Easy-to-perform bacterial culture method for the diagnosis of urinary tract infections.
Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common infections caused by bacteria. It is important to verify and treat UTI adequately since an untreated UTI may cause kidney damage. Accurate diagnosis of UTI requires bacterial culture of an appropriately collected and transported urine sample. However, transportation of urine samples from the point of care to a laboratory for testing may lead to incorrect results, as bacteria may multiply if the samples are not handled properly.
Uricult is an easy-to-perform bacterial culture mehtod for the diagnosis of UTI. The test can be carried out in a doctor's office immediately after the urine sample is taken. A urine sample innoculated on Uricult gives the correct culture result needed for an accurate diagnosis. Uricult can also be transported without any special procedures to a laboratory for incubation and interpretation.
Uricult is culture slide covered on both sides with agar media. The slide can be dipped in the sample or the sample can be poured onto the slide. The inculated side is inserted back into the tube, where it can be incubated, stored or transported.

CLED/MacConkey agar media
almost all bacteria that cause urinary tract infections grow on the CLED medium
the MAcConkey medium is selective for gram-negative bacteria

CLED/MacConkey + E. coli agar medium
E. coli bacteria producing beta-glucuronidase grow as dark colonies on the E. coli agar medium
